The National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) office building, designed by Foster and Partners and located in the financial district of Sharq, Kuwait, is an impressive 320m high conic tower with 56 levels. The building features a unique 18m high capping, known as the "crown," that completes the curved facades of the complex geometric form. The low-rise podium consists of a bank branch on the west and a museum building on the east, with three levels of basements extending across the full site. The structural concept for the tower includes a reinforced concrete core for the elevator shafts, steel beams and composite steel for the floor-framing, concrete decking, and perimeter fin columns in structural steel. BARWA HOUSING, DOHA

Client:                            BARWA Affordable Housing

Architect:

Structural Engineers:  Panceltica London

The project at Mesaimeer and Al Sailiya consists of two different sites and covers a total area of 400,000 m². It includes 2000 apartments spread across 4 stories and 62 building blocks. The development also features various amenities such as playgrounds, health clubs, swimming pools, nurseries, supermarkets, and parks. The Barwa Affordable Housing Project was a groundbreaking development as it was the world's first and largest housing project to be built using light gauge steel structures. Despite the numerous advantages of using LGS construction, such as being cost-effective, rapid, and providing accurate building solutions, this construction material was not widely utilized in the Middle East. However, the success of the Barwa project has paved the way for the increased use of light gauge steel in construction projects in the region, showing the potential for this material to revolutionize the housing industry. This innovative approach has not only provided affordable housing solutions but has also set a new standard for construction methods in the Middle East. We, on behalf of Panceltica Qatar, provided complete technical support for civil and structural engineering, including construction supervision. Both sites were completed within 18 months.

Client:             Shanta Holdings

Project Cost: Approx. $16 million

Area:               Approx. 9,500 m² Floor area

Architect:       Ehsan Khan and Architects

The Glass House was one of the landmark and innovative buildings in Bangladesh. The building structure formed a complex diagonal frame. The perimeter steel columns consist of single-storey A-frames installed on horizontal beams. The diagonal columns provided structural integrity, while a triple lift concrete core on the west facade provided additional bracing. The building also featured three basement floors for parking, storage, and facilities. The construction process was accelerated by prefabricated reinforced concrete stair elements manufactured on-site. Despite its complexity, the structure was completed within 18 months, with all steel components installed safely and without problems. On behalf of Shanta Holding, we were responsible for project and design management including construction supervision of the entire building structure. We also supervised the detailed design and fabrication of the structural steel.
